Are you accepting applications for in person classes?
No, not at this time.
Can only California residents apply?
Residents from other states or overseas are welcome to enroll. If you have questions, please contact our Director to inquire if your student is eligible to enroll in our online program.
Can students enroll at any time?
Yes, we use rolling admissions. Please contact our admissions to find out exactly what needs to be done to transfer your student.
What is the tuition?
Tuition depends on the program you select. Please see the program descriptions here.
Are all books and supplies included?
This depends on the program you select. Digital books and curriculum are included in the online academy and any online classes. Just like a brick and mortar school, typical school supplies are the responsibility of the parents/guardians. Some classes may require a graphing calculator or optional lab supplies. If Option One of the PSP program is selected, then parents/guardians purchase all the needed curriculum/books independently.
Are the online classes live?
No, all online classes are completed at the student's own schedule. All classes are monitored by a teacher. If a student is "absent" (does not log in for 2 days in a row) parents will be notified. Courses are flexible, but students are monitored for progress in order to ensure they can complete their coursework on time. So if there is a family emergency or illness that will prevent the student from logging in, please be sure to let your teacher know. If work is not turned in on a regular basis, parents will also be notified.
Can I finish a class in less than one academic year?
Yes, it is possible to finish a 1 credit class in less than 36 weeks. Especially for motivated or advanced students. Many courses, mostly science and math, offer unit pretests that will allow students to "test out" of some modules. To move on in the class, each mastery test must be passed with a minimum score of 80%.
If I finish semester 1 of my class before the end of the semester can I start the 2nd semester right away or do I need to wait for the semester start date?
When taking a two semester (full year) online class, you can start the second semester as soon as the semester exam is graded for the 1st semester.
Do your graduates go on to college?
Yes, we have had graduates admitted to universities and colleges in California and other states as well as overseas universities.
What is the difference between Option Two of the Private Satellite Program and the Online Academy?
The Online Academy is more like traditional school, but online. Parents simply need to be in communication with their assigned teacher and do not have to worry about grading, instructing or tracking progress. Option Two is for parents who would like to homeschool, but would like guidance, assistance with curriculum and some outside supervision. While Option Two might include some online classes, they might utilize other off line programs that have the parent providing instruction and doing the grading as well. Option Two is also available for Kg-5th grade. Most of the Kg-5th grade programs are off line with some supplemental online programs used.
How flexible are the online classes?
Students are given an expected goal for each class, a target date when a lesson should be completed by to stay on track, and it is expected that progress should be made at a regular pace. If students work best in the afternoon/evening, they are free to do their coursework during that time frame. It is suggested that Math and English classes be worked on daily. Some students prefer to work in blocks for other classes (History, Science, etc.): 3 hours of History on Monday, 3 hours of Biology on Tuesday, 3 hours of Health on Wed, etc. That is allowed as long as progress is made weekly and students communicate with their supervising teacher.
Are the courses rigorous?
Yes, all the courses are designed to meet or exceed state and national requirements. These course are well suited for the student wanting to head to college. We also offer a variety of electives to allow students to explore potential interests.
